Easterseals Southeast Wisconsin’s Individual Placement and Support (IPS) program is a proven, evidence-based approach to supported employment for individuals facing serious mental health conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. IPS helps participants secure and maintain meaningful jobs in competitive workplaces while receiving the support they need to succeed.

Unlike traditional employment programs, IPS prioritizes rapid job searches over prolonged assessments, recognizing that employment itself can be a crucial part of recovery. The program also integrates education and technical training to help individuals build long-term career paths.

The 8 Core Principles of IPS

• ✅ Competitive Employment – Jobs are open to anyone, pay at least minimum wage, and offer the same opportunities as positions held by coworkers with similar responsibilities.
• ✅ Systematic Job Development – Employment specialists proactively connect with businesses that align with a job seeker’s skills and interests.
• ✅ Rapid Job Search – Instead of requiring extensive training before applying, job seekers begin their search immediately, with employer contact happening within 30 days.
• ✅ Integrated Services – Employment specialists work closely with mental health professionals to provide seamless, holistic support.
• ✅ Benefits Planning – Personalized guidance helps participants understand how employment affects benefits like Social Security and Medicaid.
• ✅ Zero Exclusion – No one is turned away based on diagnosis, history, or perceived readiness. If someone wants to work, they are supported in doing so.
• ✅ Time-Unlimited Support – Ongoing job coaching and workplace support continue as long as needed to ensure stability and success.
